Laurie Wakeham

"The Boss"

Mr. Wakeham started out as a butcher's lad in 1962 in Canterbury High Street (in a shop now occupied by Thornton's Chocolates)

He opened this shop in Bridge in 1988, taking over the existing Butcher's Shop

He has been President of the Kent Council of Meat Traders Association and President of the Thanet and Canterbury Butchers Association

He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Butchers and a Freeman of the City of London

He also holds a cycling proficiency badge

Arthur

"The Pie King"

Arthur left school in 1965 to become a butcher for the Co-op in Milton Regis.

He has been working with Laurie Wakeham for 6 years

His speciality is cooked pies - for which he has won many medals, including recenbtly a Godl award for his Hoppickers Pie.

Matthew

"The Manager"

Matthew started as a butcher in 1989, for Dewhurst in Canterbury.

He has been with Laurie for 10 years

He was Young Butcher of the Year for two years running (1990 and 1991)

He has recently won awards for his prepared meat recipes (Gold for his Beef Olives)

Like his mentor, Matthew too holds a cycling proficiency badge

Darsie

"The Wind-up Merchant"

Darsie is a Londoner, but spent 30 years as a butcher in Launceston, Cornwall and the newest member of Laurie's Gang.

Not surprisingly - given his passion for racing classic motorcycles - Darsie holds a cycling proficiency badge.
